STUDENT LIFE

A Creative Network School
Since the 2018-2019 school year Cheremoya has been part of LAUSD's Creative Network. All students UTK-5th receive arts integration/instruction in four disciplines during nine or twelve week rotations (music, theater, dance, etc.).

This collaboration with the LAUSD Arts Branch supports Cheremoya's designation as an Arts Pathway School.

THE OUTDOOR LEARNING CENTER & GREEN SPACE

A labor of love and joint effort of Cheremoya Foundation, community volunteers and LAUSD. The OLC is an incredible outdoor learning and play space that has to be seen. Dedicated in 2016, the area includes a dry creek bed and a collection of native plants in addition to much needed green space for students to enjoy.
Cheremoya is also home of an EnrichLA edible garden. Student enrichment classes are delivered by a garden ranger thanks to the support of Cheremoya Foundation.

9 Dots Get Coding
The Cheremoya Foundation has partnered with the 9 Dots organization to provide students weekly coding classes.
Coding simultaneously fosters creativity and complex problem solving skills. In class, students solve increasingly complex challenges—and have fun doing so.
Outside of coding class, teachers have seen the students’ coding experience translate into improved math reasoning and better step-by-step direction comprehension.
The 9 Dots Get Coding program uses computer science to develop critical thinking skills while encouraging a growth mindset.
All Cheremoya students grades K-6 participate.
Physical Education
We’re creating team players and future leaders through team sports. Every Thursday, kids have fun as they learn good sportsmanship, teamwork skills, and the value of physical activity. The Cheremoya Foundation funds the PE program via Got Game Sports. Experienced coaches teach students new games and enjoyable ways to get much needed exercise.
After School:
We know that busy parents need after-school childcare options.
Cheremoya offers after school care until 5:45 p.m.

LAUSD's Beyond the Bell YS/YDP provides a free, grant-funded option for families who require after school care until 6 p.m.
